I was excited to see a small manilla packet in the mail a couple of days ago from the Washington Capitals.

I had a good idea what to expect, but the package had more heft and was more bumpy than I thought tickets would be.

The contents were simple, but had me eager for October 2nd nonetheless.

It included a generic welcome letter and our pair of passes to the 2010 Capitals Convention at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in downtown D.C.

I bought the “non-current player autograph” passes, but did reserve pictures with Alex Ovechkin, Olie Kolzig and Peter Bondra through WashingtonCaps.com and TicketMaster.

Some of the highlights being promoted by the Caps are:

  • Meet the Team: Listen to coach Bruce Boudreau discuss each member of the 2010-11 team as he prepares for the upcoming season.
  • Winter Classic Jersey Unveiling
  • It’s All Relative: Hear first hand what it’s like raising, living and growing up with an NHL player. Family members from our current team will give you insight on the good, the bad and the ugly of growing up in a hockey household.
  • Verizon Posed Photo: Purchase your Verizon posed player photo ticket today to secure your Convention ticket with one of the designated players.  For $25 you will receive a picture with your chosen player and a commemorative Convention frame.  Players currently scheduled to pose for pictures are Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Semin, Nicklas Backstrom, Mike Green, Mike Knuble, Brooks Laich and Semyon Varlamov.  Coach Bruce Boudreau, former Caps Olie Kolzig, Peter Bondra, Mike Gartner and Rod Langway will also be available.

Training camp is underway and the Caps Convention and regular season are just around the corner.

It’s a beautiful (and red) time of year.
